Buena Vista, VA—On October 26, 2009 RAOC received a visit and a generous donation from Congressman Bob Goodlatte. During his visit, he toured the Center and met with the employees and took an interest in the jobs they were completing that day as well as having his picture taken with them.
Each year, Congressman Goodlatte donates his yearly Congressional pay raise to various non-profits in the Sixth District. Goodlatte has been making donations from his annual pay raises for the past sixteen (16) years. This contribution will be used to help RAOC continue to create employment opportunities for people with disabilities. Employees, staff and board members that were present during his visit enjoyed the time that Congressman Goodlatte spent with each one of them.

Buena Vista, VA—The Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) recently surveyed RAOC for its tri-annual certification the first of November. The accreditation is a process that demonstrates whether a provider such as RAOC has met standards for the quality of its services. CARF establishes these standards to guide providers in offering their services. CARF also uses the standards to evaluate how well a provider is serving its people and how it can improve.
During the three day survey, the representative meets with staff, board members, employees and their family members. In addition, he reviews records and policies and procedures to ensure that everything is in place and in accordance with their standards. At the end of this three day period, the surveyor meets with staff members for an exit conference to review his findings and offer any suggestions. Providers can receive a provisional or one or three year accreditation or non-accreditation. The goal is to receive a three year accreditation which means you are keeping up with the CARF standards and doing your best to serve the people of your organization.
RAOC was proud to receive the honor of a three year accreditation which means we will not be surveyed again until the end of 2012. RAOC wishes to thank all of its employees, staff and board members for their hard work and dedication to the mission of the Center.
